Welcome to Globaloria!

Hello Students, and welcome to Globaloria!

I have created this blog not only to welcome you to this course, but also to give you a small demonstration of what you will be doing this semester in Globaloria.

A large part of this course involves making and maintaining your own blog. If you scroll down, you can check out my blog which I started this summer.

Another part of this course involves creating games. I described a game that I would like to create which involves learning how to play the guitar in one of my blogs titled "Playing to Learn How to Play the Guitar."

You will learn how to write script so that you can create puzzles, action games, adventure games and games which involve strategy. Click here to see sample games which students have created in other Globaloria classes.

Are you ready to have fun while learning?
Let's get started! On your mark, get set, go!

"Explore the Logic of Passion"

Emotional Competency.com was created by Leland R. Beaumont to help people develop "the essential social skills to recognize, interpret, and respond constructively to emotions in yourself and others."

In an article titled Anger - An Urgent Plea for Justice and Action, Beaumont states that,
The excuse 'You made me do this, I had no choice' is always false. Self control is the difference between acting destructively in anger, and responding calmly, constructively, and rationally. You are always responsible for your actions. It is false to believe: If I don't act out the anger, I have given in, lost face, wimped out, become a coward, and disgraced myself. Actually the opposite is true. It takes greater strength, self restraint, introspection, and analysis to constructively resolve anger.

The following videos demonstrate a negative approach to angry emotions ...

... versus a positive approach to angry emotions.

Ice Cream

My favorite ice cream is not lime, but it is green. Mmmmm mint chocolate chip!

Playing to Learn how to Play the Guitar

The objective of my game is to teach the placement of fingers on the guitar to create chords. Additionally, students will learn how to combine the chords to create music. Finally, the student will learn the importance of tempo in music.

My game will be interactive. The player will be required to drag spots (using the mouse) onto the neck of the guitar to indicate the placement of fingers when making a particular chord. I would like to include the sound of a guitar strumming the chord when the spots are put in the correct placement. If the spots are placed incorrectly, the guitar strum would make a sound that was obviously off-key.

When all of the chords are placed correctly, the player would be able to chart the chords by dragging the chords using the mouse to write an original tune, or the player could choose from tunes suggested by the game. Finally, when the student moves the mouse over the chart he or she has created, the correct chord will be strummed so that the player can hear the tune. Additionally, the player will be able to control the tempo at which the chords are changed.

Love and Peace

"If someone thinks that love and peace is a cliche that must have been left behind in the Sixties, that's his problem. Love and peace are eternal."
John Lennon

John Lennon had much to say, and he did not hold back. He was a man who thought he could change the world with his music and lyrics, and in many ways, he accomplished his goal.

"You either get tired fighting for peace, or you die."
John Lennon

The irony of John Lennon's death is in the violence and hatred he suffered. This man was all about peace and love.

"Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us, and the world will be as one."
John Lennon

In fact, he was not the only one; making martyrs of peace-lovers seems to be a pattern. Martin Luther King suffered a violent death after living a life with a purpose to bring peace. John F. Kennedy was attempting to make this world a better place as was Malcolm X. Both were violently shot and killed.

"Everybody loves you when you're six foot in the ground."
John Lennon

I suppose that what should be ironic has been transformed into something that is to be expected. Those who preach love are hated; those who preach peace become martyrs. Nevertheless, as martyrs, they become stronger than their sermons. The world makes them heros. And peace and love will win in the end.

"All you need is love."
John Lennon
